Microsoft Access

This week was my first chance to explore Microsoft Access. This program is new to me and I had actually never heard of it before this assignment. I have been pretty comfortable using all of the other Microsoft programs and am surprised I did not know this one even existed.
Microsoft Access seems similar to the Microsoft Excel program. Both programs take some time and energy to figure out. It took me a little while to understand Access and become fully comfortable with the program. I think that this program is pretty sensitive and any changes I made seemed to change the entire set of my data. The tutorials helped me understand the program better but with learning any new tool, it takes time.
The Microsoft Access program is a beneficial one to use for business and for anything that includes the use of data. This program allows you to input data such as; names, addresses, parent information, and test scores. Teachers can store the data all in one spot and guarantee that it is safe and can be used later. The Queries allow you to retrieve specific data from the program. Teachers can analyze the data or pull only the data they need. This is a great way to sort through test scores and even attendance records for students. It is an efficient way to maintain data and sort through it.
Microsoft Access seems to be an easy tool to navigate through once you have the hang of it. Teachers can use it everyday in and out of their classroom. It makes inputting data and then analyzing it much easier. Sorting through data is no longer such a tedious task.
I would use Access in my own classroom as a supplemental tool for data. This is a tool that I need to learn more about and experience everything it has to offer. I plan to use this tool more and to become more comfortable with it.

  1. This was also my first experience with Access and like you I didn't even know the program existed. I found the program similar to Excel on the surface but very different once I started to explore and complete the assignment. I found myself watching the tutorials and finding other tutorials to supplement what was already posted. My biggest struggle was finding the correct formula to make the query work to answer the question for our assignment. Also, like you I can see how Access can be beneficial on tracking test scores and other assignments. However, using Access is a tedious task and it would be difficult to incorporate into the classroom for student use.
